Lab-Grown Diamond Engagement Rings Wholesale: A Guide for Retailers

A retailer stocks oval semi-mounts made for “1.50 ct” centers. A customer chooses a 1.52 ct oval that measures 9.2 × 6.2 mm, longer and slimmer than the 8.8 × 6.5 mm stone the heads were modeled on. The prongs land off the points, the head has to be rebuilt, and the ring that was promised for Saturday is ready the following week. The semi-mounts were fine. Their specification gave a carat weight instead of a millimeter range.

Retailers can buy lab-grown engagement rings wholesale as finished rings (center stone set), as semi-mounts (setting with side stones, center to be added), or as loose center stones to set in-store. Choose the model that fits your inventory and customer experience. For each, define the specifications precisely, require reports for center stones, approve samples, and inspect for stone security, finish and accuracy before shipment.

Many retailers combine semi-mounts on display with a center stone program.

Center stone programs

Define the range you will stock or offer:

  • Shapes (round, oval, emerald, pear, cushion, radiant).
  • Carat bands (e.g. 1.00–1.09, 1.50–1.59, 2.00–2.09).
  • Color and clarity ranges.
  • Cut grade (rounds) or proportion criteria (fancy shapes).
  • Report lab (IGI, GIA or NGTC).
  • Growth method and treatment requirements, if any.

Verify every report number online. IGI reports give full color and clarity grades and, since 2021, state treatment status, for example “As Grown – No indication of post-growth treatment”. GIA has given colorless lab-grown diamonds a Premium or Standard assessment instead of letter grades since October 2025, and HRD Antwerp stopped grading loose lab-grown diamonds from 2026. Choose one main laboratory for your counter so staff can explain reports consistently.

Samples and approval

Approve a sample of each style, with the center stone seated, before production. Check head fit, prong security, side stone matching, finish and comfort. Keep the approved sample as the reference.

Demand at the counter

Lab-grown bridal is still growing at specialty jewelers even as stone prices fall. Tenoris data reported by JCK in July 2026 showed US specialty retailers’ lab-grown jewelry sales up 24% in the second quarter, while analyst Edahn Golan’s figures put average lab-grown wholesale prices down 13% year on year. Falling stone prices make it worth buying centers closer to demand and holding more semi-mounts than finished rings.

Bridal wholesale questions

Can I buy semi-mounts without center stones?

Yes. Specify the center shape and the millimeter range each setting must fit.

Do wholesale engagement rings come with reports?

Center stones can come with IGI, GIA or NGTC reports. Specify your requirement.

Can we order custom designs for our store?

Usually, through an OEM sampling process.

Should we stock finished rings or semi-mounts?

Semi-mounts on display with a center stone program let customers choose and keep less money in stones; finished rings suit e-commerce and ready-to-wear displays. See OEM sampling.
